White Patch or Leukoplakia is a condition in which white or grayish patches appears inside your mouth on the gums, cheeks or tongue. This patch cannot be easily removed by rubbing and affected surface feels rough/hard. Also, they don’t heal on their own and there may be increased sensitivity to spicy food. At times, this condition can be painful as well.
Causes: There are many factors that can lead to Leukoplakia, however, tobacco products (smoked or chewed) and alcohol is considered to be the main cause.
Other causes can be continuous irritation with a denture or rough filling, cheek/tongue biting. Deficiency of vitamin A, C, B complex and fiber is also found to be one of the causes of Leukoplakia
